DH's hernia surgery......nice experience
Dr. Robert Davis did DH's naval hernia surgery this morning at Memorial Herman Memorial City Hospital. This was our first experience with this facility and I have to say it was a pleasant experience both behind and in front of the action. Although his surgery was an out patient procedure we were taken to the second floor surgical area instead of the day surgery facility. Everyone we dealt with was very nice, helpful and couldn't have been more accomodating. This was DH's first surgery and everyone made sure to explain every little detail to him to calm his nerves. DH said they were very busy in the recovery area but it was a very well run machine. Before he was taken to surgery, in the staging/visiting area, he said no less than 10 people came by, asked him what surgery he was having, checked his paperwork as well as his bracelets, etc. to make sure everything was jiving.
When a patient is checked in the family member/friend is given a card with a security number as well as a patient number. If anyone needs to call to check up on the patients, they won't be told squat unless they can give that security number. In the waiting room there is a TV screen listing the patients number and a status so you can easily see where they are in the process.
While sitting in the waiting area I had the chance to talk to the wife of a man getting his RNY surgery from Dr. Davis. She had Lap Band a year ago. We had been talking about quilting and such and when I took out my bottled water and protein bar she asked which surgery I had had! Needless to say the conversation subject was changed! I gave her the OH website and invited them both to check us out.
DH is doing great and is reporting no pain at all, only some soreness. He does have an RX to take but said he'd probably quit taking it tomorrow as he doesn't like the groggy feeling of the Darvocet. I just wanted to give an update on our experience since the Drs. Davis have switched to this new location....it's all good!

It is so very nice to hear good stories about hospitals. It is also wonderful that he did so well.
Congrats all the way around. Know what you mean about making friends in the waiting room, been there, way too much with Tom.
Hope the good news just keeps on rolling...

I was sitting in Dr. Davis' office this morning for my 1-year follow-up and was thinking about you guys and wondering if you got the insurance fiasco straightened out with BC/BS.
Glad to hear everything went well and you hubbie is ok.
I like the monitor in the waiting room with the status. They wheeled me and Mari back to the prep area and we were there for a very long time before they took us into surgery. Our loved ones in the waiting room (my husband and Mari's sister) didn't know that and were getting worried because they knew about how long the surgery was supposed to take if everything went well.
